The Yeshwanthpur-Channasandra track doubling project, spanning 48 km and budgeted at Rs 498.73 crore, has only achieved a completion rate of 25 per cent, according to officials. In contrast, the Baiyappanahalli-Channasandra track doubling initiative, covering 21.70 km and allocated Rs 314.10 crore, has made significant strides with a progress rate of 55 per cent.
A senior official from the South Western Railways stated that approvals for yards for the Chikkabanavara-Baiyappanahalli stretch have been granted. Tenders have been issued for various tasks including earthworks, small bridges, track works, station building, and OHE electrical utility shifting works, projected to be finalized by December 2024.
The timeline anticipates completion of the Yeshwanthpur bypass-Lottegollahalli-Hebbal stretch (8.1 km) by June 2024 and the Yeshwanthpur bypass to Lottegollahalli’s fourth line (2.5 km) by December 2024. The Hebbal-Baiyappanahalli stretch (11.6 km) is also targeted for completion by December 2024.
In the Baiyappanahalli-Hosur doubling works (48 km), the Carmelaram-Heelalige section (10.5 km) commenced in February. Tenders have been awarded for various tasks, with expectations for completion of several sections within the fiscal years 2023-24 and 2024-28.
Corridor-2 (Chikkabanavara-Yeshwanthpur-Baiyappanahalli, 25 km) and Corridor-4 (Rajanakunte-Yelahanka-Baiyappanahalli-Heelalige, 46.24 km) have seen progress, with contractors appointed for preliminary work. Tenders for Rolling Stock procurement under Public-Private Partnership have been issued, with the project aiming for completion by December 2027.
The Government of Karnataka and the Railway Departments have jointly sanctioned the Baiyappanahalli-Hosur and Yeshwantpur-Channasandra railway double-track construction via K-Ride on a cost-sharing basis in June 2020.
