Special Commissioner of Health, Surolkar Vikas Kishore, has penned a letter to the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), urging cooperation in preventing the spread of infectious diseases in the city.
Highlighting the pivotal role of the water board in disease prevention, Kishore outlined specific measures to be implemented by BWSSB in his missive.
Firstly, he emphasized the importance of daily water sampling, directing senior health inspectors to collect samples for analysis at the Public Health Institute (PHI) lab. This rigorous monitoring aims to ensure the safety and quality of drinking water supplied to residents.
Additionally, Kishore stressed the need for collaboration between BWSSB and the Health Department in conducting comprehensive sampling efforts. Specifically, he urged the collection of samples from manholes and drains in areas where disease outbreaks have been reported. This coordinated approach enables early detection of potential health risks and facilitates targeted interventions to mitigate their spread.
Furthermore, Kishore higlighted the importance of proactive infrastructure maintenance, instructing BWSSB to inspect water pipes for leaks and promptly address any identified issues. By addressing infrastructure vulnerabilities, the water board can prevent contamination and ensure the delivery of safe, clean water to the citizens of Bengaluru.
