In a significant development for Indian motorsport, a deal has been finalized by Indian racer Akshay Gupta with Mertens Motorsport for the upcoming 2024 Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) season. The NLS, established in the 1970s, is recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious endurance racing championships worldwide. Gupta’s signing marks a milestone for Indian motorsport, as he emerges as the country’s sole representative among over 300 drivers and 117 cars. Gupta, hailing from Ahmedabad, encountered injuries during several rounds of last year’s championship with Adrenalin Motorsport, necessitating surgeries on both his hands. Despite ongoing recovery, his passion for racing has prompted his return to the track, engaging in pre-season testing. The 31-year-old will drive the Hyundai i30N (car number 492) for Mertens Motorsport in the upcoming season, commencing with the NLS1: 64. ADAC ACAS Cup on April 6. Gupta, also a tech founder, commenced his professional racing career in 2010, achieving notable success as a runner-up at the Buddh International Circuit for Toyota in the National Championship season finale of 2013.
