Retired Superintendent of Police AS Magennavar emphasized the urgent need to empower police technologically to combat the rising tide of new-age crimes, particularly cybercrimes, which are resulting in daily instances of fraud.
Addressing the Police Flag Day program at DAR grounds, Magennavar highlighted the importance of training police personnel, including graduates, post-graduates, and engineers, in tracing hi-tech crimes, evidence collection, and technical aspects of investigations.
Magennavar stressed that the responsibility of police officers extends beyond solving cases to ensuring the conviction and incarceration of the accused, thereby enhancing the reputation of the Police department and public trust in law enforcement.
He advocated for police to engage in awareness programs for students in schools and colleges, educating them on basic traffic rules and laws, in addition to penalizing traffic violators.
Superintendent of Police Gopal Byakod announced that funds raised from the sale of Police flags would be utilized for the welfare of retired police personnel. Last year, Rs 25 lakh was allocated for the treatment of ailing personnel and other welfare initiatives. The event also felicitated nine retiring personnel, with the presence of Additional Superintendent of Police Narayan Baramani.
