Garbage Collection Vehicles Ply Without Registration Plates

Must read

Belagavi

Belagavi City Corporation’s garbage collection vehicles have become a topic of concern due to their lack of registration plates, as highlighted by the public. Despite numerous complaints indicating that more than five vehicles are operating without proper registration, the Police department has been accused of neglecting to address the issue. Social activist Santosh Dharekar criticized the authorities for their apparent indifference to these violations of the Motor Vehicle Act. While the Police department is quick to act against public violations, it has allegedly failed to take action against the unregistered garbage collection vehicles. Furthermore, there are claims that these vehicles lack indicators, further flouting regulations.

Residents, exemplified by Rohit from Shahu Nagar, stress the importance of vehicles complying with legal requirements such as registration plates, indicators, headlights, insurance, and driver’s licenses. They expect the police to consistently enforce the Motor Vehicles Act.

Corporation officials clarified that the garbage transport vehicles are leased, with maintenance responsibilities resting with the contracted company. However, Corporation Engineer Uday Kumar, in charge of these vehicles, was unavailable for comment due to election-related duties.
