On Tuesday, junior doctors from West Bengal government hospitals protested, alleging that the CBI charge sheet regarding the murder and rape of their colleague at R.G. Kar Hospital contains significant gaps. The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF), which is leading the call for justice following the tragic incident on August 9, expressed frustration over what they perceive as a delay in forensic testing of crime scene evidence. A protester questioned, Why did it take five days to send the evidence for forensic examination after it was collected?
The junior doctors are critical of the CBI’s initial charges against the main suspect, Sanjay Roy, which were filed just a week before a court hearing on November 11. They noted that the charge sheet lacks details about Roy’s activities during a crucial 27-minute window on the night of the incident. Additionally, they pointed out that the report does not address a sticky white fluid found on the victim, which the post-mortem indicated but did not clarify if it underwent DNA testing.
The WBJDF believes that the CBI’s charge sheet seems to rely heavily on findings from the Kolkata Police, who initially investigated the case. Accompanied by thousands of supporters, the junior doctors have been staging protests outside the CBI office in Salt Lake, demanding swift justice for their colleague.
