On Tuesday morning, a leopard killed a dog at a homestay in Valparai, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. The homestay owners awoke to the dog’s cries but found it had already been killed by the leopard, according to Tamil Nadu Forest Department officials.
This incident follows a tragic attack just days earlier, where a leopard fatally mauled a 6-year-old girl, Apsara Khatun, the daughter of migrant workers from Jharkhand. The leopard reportedly dragged her into the forest while she was at a stream with her mother.
Concerned residents are now urging the authorities to capture and relocate the leopard, fearing more attacks. Social activist M. Mariappan criticized the forest department, demanding better measures to prevent wildlife from entering residential areas. With tensions rising, locals are planning a protest to push for immediate action to protect the community.
