Hansika plays a scientist in Kannan’s sci-fi horror comedy

Must read

Director R Kannan, who has wrapped up work on his two upcoming films — the remakes of The Great Indian Kitchen and Kasethan Kadavulada — has now begun the shoot of his next project, a sci-fi horror comedy that will star Hansika in the lead role.
Speaking from the puja of the film, which took place early Monday morning, Kannan tells us, “This will be my 12th film and Hansika will be returning to the horror comedy space after starring in the successful Aranmanai films.” He clarifies that the film is not a remake but is based on an original script. “I’ve done only four remakes so far, but somehow, people have this image of me as a remake director. As far as this film is concerned, I have written the story and screenplay, and will be directing and producing it,” he says.
Divulging details about Hansika’s role, he says, “She will be seen as a scientist named Nethra, a contemporary, young woman with a modern look.” He adds that a popular star will appear as Hansika’s romantic interest in a brief portion.
Comedy will be the base of the film with science fiction and fantasy providing the backdrop, says the director, who has started the shoot of this untitled film. Kannan says that the team will be shooting for 45 days over the next couple of months and wrap up the entire shoot. “We are putting up a grand set of a science lab on ECR. The scenes shot inside it will have heavy visual effects. We had the script ready two months ago and we have finished storyboarding these sequences as well. Our art director Crawford has started work on this set. The idea is to complete the shoot in April and release the film on August 15,” he says, and adds that the team had also had a script reading session to help the cast and crew get familiar with the script.
M Balasubramaniem is the cinematographer while Kabilan Vairamuthu will be penning the lyrics. Sidharth Subhavenkat, an assistant of Kannan, is the dialogue writer. Kannan says that he is planning to rope in a music director only after finishing the shoot.
