Minsk
India and Belarus held the eighth round of Foreign Office Consultations in Minsk to expand cooperation in various sectors, including politics, economy, culture, tourism, education, and consular affairs. The talks reflected both nations’ commitment to deepen their long-standing partnership.
Led by India’s Secretary (West) Sibi George and Belarus’ Deputy Foreign Minister Evgeny Shestakov, the discussions focused on strengthening political dialogue, trade, and manufacturing collaboration. Both sides also reviewed cooperation within key international groups such as the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and BRICS.
Officials highlighted that while bilateral ties have grown stronger amid global challenges, there remains untapped potential for deeper collaboration. They emphasized enhancing mutual trust, expanding legal frameworks, and fostering humanitarian connections.
During his visit, Sibi George met Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov to discuss ways to boost ties in political, economic, and social sectors. He also interacted with Indian medical students at the Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU), where he met Rector Sergei Rubnikovich, who reaffirmed the university’s support for Indian students’ welfare and academic success.
In a symbolic gesture, George joined Belarusian State University Rector Andrei D. Carol and India’s Ambassador Ashok Kumar to pay floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The event underscored Gandhi’s enduring message of peace and compassion, which continues to inspire both nations.
Both countries agreed to continue consultations and work toward new projects that would benefit people on both sides, reflecting a shared vision for stronger India-Belarus cooperation.
