The city police has re-launched Operation Chamundi to ensure that the 8km stretch of the Chamundi Hills Road is not used for wheeling and rash driving. The police decided to continue this drive for 15 days and to take up this drive randomly afterwards to ensure that the miscreants do not misuse the road.
“We will keep an eye on all the vehicles that enter this section of the road,” said Krishnaraja assistant commissioner of police Poornachandra Tejaswi.
“This drive is named Operation Chamundi. There are allegations that miscreants are using this ghat stretch for wheeling and rash driving. We will put a break on this,” he said. Similar drive has been carried out in the past too,” he said.
As per the plan, police surveillance will be increased in the area to ensure that miscreants do not engage in activities that poses threat to others. The police will keep an eye on all the vehicles entering and exiting the betta, especially the two-wheelers. If anyone is found involved in the wheeling, such vehicles will be confiscated. The police will also monitor the movement of suspicious vehicles and persons in the area.
According to the locals, rash driving and wheeling is the biggest challenge faced by them as many youths use this stretch to test their skills. “Now, the presence of cops will deter these youths. Hope this menace will stop,” said V Nagaratna, a  resident of Tavarekatte.
