The Arvind Kejriwal government in the national capital is gearing up to revolutionize its energy sector by initiating a project to install 50 MW grid-connected rooftop solar PV systems on 645 buildings belonging to the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

As per the office of the Delhi Power Minister, the total power capacity expected from these installations is 50MW. The solar plant installation initiative has received approval from Power Minister Atishi, aligning with the recently sanctioned Delhi Solar Policy. This policy aims to escalate solar power generation and utilization throughout the city.

Under the plan, about 645 Delhi Government/MCD buildings, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities, DTC Depots, DTL substations, and more, will undergo solar power plant installation.

Atishi, the Power Minister, underscored the significance of the initiative, citing the Delhi Solar Policy as one of India’s most progressive policies. She stressed the objective of making government buildings energy-efficient and self-sustainable.

Furthermore, Atishi revealed the ambition of the solar policy, aiming to generate 25 percent of Delhi’s electricity through solar power plants by 2027. This endeavor positions Delhi as a leader in solar power generation among Indian states despite the rising electricity consumption in the city.
