External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Egyptian Ambassador Wael Hamed on Wednesday for a farewell call. Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Hamed’s efforts in strengthening India-Egypt relations. On social media, Jaishankar shared his pleasure at receiving Hamed and thanked him for advancing the bilateral ties, wishing him success in his future endeavors.

India and Egypt, both with ancient histories, have enjoyed strong relations for centuries. Their collaboration spans various areas, including political and regional issues. The bilateral relationship was further solidified by Prime Minister Modi’s State Visit to Egypt in June 2023, where he was awarded Egypt’s highest honor, the Order of the Nile.

Earlier this year, Jaishankar joined Hamed in New Delhi to celebrate Egypt’s National Day, reaffirming India’s commitment to enhancing their partnership. Jaishankar highlighted Egypt’s importance as a strategic partner and noted the recent deepening of ties, including President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit as the Chief Guest at India’s 74th Republic Day and Modi’s official visit to Egypt, which elevated their relationship to a strategic level.
