Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reiterated his party’s commitment to conducting a caste census if entrusted with power, emphasizing that this crucial measure, along with economic mapping, would dismantle the 50 per cent cap on reservations. Gandhi emphasized that the Congress’ rallying cry is count, as it signifies the initial stride towards justice. In a Hindi post on X, the former Congress president pondered over the identity of the impoverished, stressing the need to quantify their numbers and conditions. He cited Bihar’s caste survey findings, revealing that 88 per cent of the impoverished hailed from Dalit, tribal, backward, and minority backgrounds.

Gandhi emphasized that Bihar’s statistics only scratch the surface of the nationwide scenario, highlighting the dire conditions confronting the impoverished masses. He announced plans for two groundbreaking initiatives a caste census and economic mapping envisioning their role in abolishing the 50 per cent reservation cap. These initiatives that, Gandhi asserted, would effectively X-Ray the nation, ensuring accurate reservations, rights, and opportunities for all. He also emphasized that such measures would facilitate tailored policies and interventions, liberating the impoverished from the struggles of education, employment, healthcare, and integrating them into the developmental mainstream.

Gandhi urged the populace to rally behind the cause of the caste census, asserting its role in dispelling the darkness of adversity and guiding them toward enlightenment. He portrayed the caste census as a fundamental right and a pathway out of hardship, urging citizens to voice their support and embrace the forthcoming illumination.
