Congress leaders in Dakshina Kannada have said that they will submit a memorandum urging government to set up a fact finding committee to conduct an independent inquiry into the incidents reported at St Gerosa School in the city. Senior Congress leaders B Ramanath Rai and Vinay Kumar Sorake visited the school, where a teacher was suspended for allegedly making derogatory statements against Hindu Gods, religion and PM Narendra Modi, inside the classroom.

There is a need for introspection on the facts related to the allegations being levelled against a reputed institution, Ramanath Rai told.
A fact finding committee involving officials from the education department should conduct an independent inquiry to ascertain the facts. The incident in the institute should not lead to friction. Hence, we need to know what happened in the institute. Though some decisions have already been taken on Monday, we want to ensure that the incident should not escalate further, said Rai. The education department has the responsibility to solve issues that has taken place inside school campuses, he said. Officials failed to reach the institute immediately. They entered only after the situation worsened, and were forced to speak due to pressure. Further, children should not be provoked and used for politics. The inquiry should also focus on children being misused for politics. Action needs to be taken based on the report of the fact finding committee, Rai said.
The district already has a taint of being a district of communal hatred. We believe in communal harmony in society, and our visit is to restore peace. Some leaders may continue to trigger hatred, but our aim is to create a harmonious society, he added.
