Chikkaballapur Municipal Council’s pre-budget meeting for the fiscal year 2024-25 witnessed crucial deliberations under the stewardship of District Commissioner at Visvesvaraya Hall. S. M. Rafiq, a prominent figure in the council, emphasized the need for strategic initiatives to uplift the city’s infrastructure and financial policies.
Rafiq stressed that the demarcation of the council’s 31 wards is imperative for efficient governance. Additionally, he proposed the allocation of Rs. 2.6 crore for the drainage of the Jakkalamadugu reservoir, a vital water source for the city.
Highlighting the citizens’ burden, Rafiq underscored that taxes on private properties paid by residents to the council, should not incur additional interest or penalties for arrears. He advocated for a fair tax regime that aligns with citizens’ financial capabilities.
Addressing the digital divide, Rafiq suggested equipping all 31 wards with 30 electric poles each, facilitating enhanced connectivity and service accessibility for residents.
During the session, members of the council voiced their concerns and proposals for community welfare. Ambarish, representing the 15th Ward emphasized prudent fiscal management by revising rents of council-owned buildings to match market rates.
G. Nagaraj, the council member from the fifth ward advocated for compassionate support, proposing a Rs. 5000 funeral assistance scheme for indigent residents along with government-sponsored funeral vehicles.
