President of Dharwad-based Basava Peace Mission Mahadev Horatti has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to make alterations to Basaveshwar Aikya Mantap, the place where 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwar went to samadhi in Kudalasangama.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, he said the present arrangement to visit the samadhi is unscientific, and highly inconvenient and lacks vision. It is located opposite Sangamanath Temple at the end of Basavasagar in Narayanapur reservoir.
It is difficult for the senior citizens, women, foreigners and physically challenged persons to climb down the steps and pay respects to the samadhi. The entire structure needs to be widened and elavators should be installed. Appoint a technical committee to make necessary improvement and ensure that the backwater does not gush into the mantap during rainy season, Horatti said.
When the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government have spent crores of rupees for the development Ayodhya, it should not be difficult for the state government to develop Aikya Mantap premises, he said.
