Mysuru Lok Sabha MP Pratap Simha has spoken out against the proposal to rename Mysuru Airport after Tipu Sultan, stating that the previous government had already recommended renaming it after Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. Simha expressed his disapproval of the Congress government’s attempt to alter the decision, emphasizing that he would not permit such a change. Simha, who has faced criticism over the recent security breach in Parliament, released a statement on the issue of renaming the airport. He pointed out that the renaming process is in its final stages, with the previous government, led by Basavaraj Bommai, having accepted the proposal and recommended it to the Centre on August 18, 2022. The renaming of Mysuru Airport after Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar is in the final stages. The Congress proposal to rename it after Tipu Sultan at this stage is not appropriate, Simha stated in his response. Accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of engaging in appeasement politics, Simha highlighted the Chief Minister’s previous decision to permit Tipu Jayanti during his first term, which had caused discontent among the people of Mysuru and Kodavas. Simha expressed his determination not to allow the renaming of Mysuru Airport after Tipu Sultan, characterizing it as an attempt by Congress to engage in vote bank politics by distorting history.
