In response to the expanding needs of Bengaluru’s growing population, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has undertaken the task of constructing hundreds of toilets within its jurisdiction. Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath emphasized the importance of promptly identifying locations within each zone for the construction of public toilets. During a meeting held at the B.S.W.M.L office hall on Wednesday, Tushar Girinath urged the identification and listing of places in congested areas, markets, and other crucial locations in the respective zones of the city. Already, 255 locations have been earmarked for toilet construction, and the Chief Commissioner stressed the need for selecting spacious areas for this purpose. Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of constructing more toilets in the central area of the city. The directive includes identifying suitable locations for the construction of 46 new toilets, in addition to the existing 255. This initiative aims to quickly raise over 300 new toilets in Bengaluru. Currently, the city has 393 public toilets, including 360 public toilets, 6 community toilets, 17 modular toilets, and 10 precast toilets. The urgency of constructing more toilets in public spaces was emphasized to meet the immediate needs of the city’s residents.
