A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Hebri Someshwara petrol pump on Friday, where a tipper truck tragically ran over two sleeping laborers, resulting in the death of one, identified as Shivaraj (36), a native of Korlikoppa near Tyagarti. The second laborer, Kundur Mahendra, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Manipal hospital. The incident occurred during the late hours as Shivaraj, along with his companions, had parked their pick-up near the petrol pump after transporting bananas from Agumbe-Someshwara en route to Udupi. The trio chose to rest in front of their vehicle. In the early morning, a tipper truck arrived at the petrol pump to refuel. Tragically, while turning the vehicle after refueling, the driver inadvertently ran over the two laborers who were asleep. Shivaraj lost his life on the spot, leaving behind a poignant scene of sorrow. Kundur Mahendra, fortunate to survive, was rushed to Manipal hospital for urgent medical attention. It’s reported that another laborer, Yogesh, who was sleeping inside the pick-up, narrowly escaped the catastrophic incident. The community mourns the loss of Shivaraj and hopes for the swift recovery of Kundur Mahendra as investigations into the circumstances of the accident are underway.
