PCI Lauds Government’s Initiative For Khelo India Para Games

The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) has expressed its appreciation for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) initiative to host the inaugural Khelo India Para Games. Deepa Malik, President of PCI and the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic medal in shot put, lauded the government’s vision of creating an inclusive sports ecosystem. Malik expressed her excitement about the upcoming Khelo India Para Games, scheduled to take place in New Delhi in December. She commended the government’s commitment to inclusivity, stating that the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of sab ka saath sab ka vikas (development for all). As someone with a disability and now in an administrative role with PCI, Malik highlighted the inclusive nature of the sports ecosystem under the leadership of PM Modi. The ‘Praise4Para’ hashtag campaign, launched by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) ahead of the Khelo India Para Games, celebrates the remarkable achievements of para athletes and their joy of participation despite challenges. Over 1350 para athletes are set to participate in the first edition of the Khelo India Para Games, showcasing a substantial response to the event. States like Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh will be represented by significant contingents. The large participation reflects the growing inclusivity and support for para sports in the country.The Khelo India Para Games is a significant step toward providing a platform for para athletes to compete at a national level and contribute to the development of para sports in India.
