Assembly speaker UT Khader said that the playground in front of the Yemmekere Swimming Pool will be developed at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
He told media persons that as assured at the time of constructing the swimming pool, the development of the area near the pool will be taken up after consulting locals. We will hold discussions with locals, before developing the playground.

We hope to develop walking and running tracks, a facility for playing cricket, volleyball, football and basketball. We want to develop this area into asports complex, said UT Khader.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the International Olympic standard swimming pool at Yemmekere, and will also inaugurate the 19th National Masters Swimming Championship 2023. The Chief Minister will also lay the foundation for the playground on November 24.
The community level international Olympic-standard swimming pool is built as per FINA standards, by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), at a total project cost of Rs 24.9 crore. Khader said that the unique feature of this is its positioning at +7.0 m of deck level, allowing for cars and two-wheeler parking in the basement, as well as a filtration unit under the pool bottom. The design also provides an opportunity to create a mezzanine floor which houses dormitories for male and female competitors, gym, changing rooms, toilets, lockers, an administration office and space for sports medicine, physiotherapy, anti-doping room and other requisite facilities for conducting international events.

The open-to-the-sky swimming pool has a spectator seating capacity of 400 people. Further, there is underwater lighting, overflow channels, starting blocks and lane dividers. The elevation is made of locally available factory-made terracotta wire-cut bricks, Khader said.
