Alia Bhatt is emerging as the top choice to star in Kalki 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the hit sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD. This comes after Deepika Padukone’s exit from the project following a reported disagreement over her work schedule.
Deepika had played Sumati, a key character in the first film. She recently shared her side of the story, saying her request for an 8-hour workday led to unfair treatment by the makers, while male stars received more support for similar demands. Production house Vyjayanthi Movies has since parted ways with her, calling her demands unprofessional.
With Deepika out, director Nag Ashwin is now in talks with Alia Bhatt. Sources say Alia had previously discussed another project with him, and now she may step in for this high-profile role. Though nothing is confirmed yet, fans are excited about the possible casting change.
Kalki 2898 AD is a mythological science fiction film that starts after the Kurukshetra war, featuring Prabhas as the protector of the final avatar of Vishnu. The sequel, Kalki 2, is expected to begin filming in 2026.
An official announcement regarding Alia’s involvement is awaited.
