An Assistant Sub Inspector committed suicide by consuming poison at Gudigeri in Kundagol taluk. The deceased has been identified as Basavaraj Shantaveerappa Payannavara (54), ASI of Gudageri Police station.
Basavaraj, who had gone to the hostel after completing his night shift, was sleeping near the temple in the premises of the hostel. When the family went to wake them up for lunch, he did not get up. His family immediately rushed him to Laksheshwara Hospital. Doctors said Basavaraj had died by then. The post-mortem revealed that ASI Basavaraj committed suicide by consuming poison.
The exact reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained. The deceased ASI was reportedly suffering from leg pain for a few days. It is suspected that illness may have been the reason for the suicide. The deceased, Basavaraj, was originally from Shantagiri village near Gajendragad in Gadag district. He is survived by his wife and three children. A case has been registered at Gudigeri Police station.
