CHAMARAJANAGAR
In a remarkable turn of events, an RTI activist from Kunnagalli village in Kollegal taluk, Lingaraju, has returned Rs 50,000 compensation received from the Social Welfare Department after filing two false caste discrimination cases. Lingaraju, who was earlier awarded the amount under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, appeared before the Principal District and Sessions Court where he submitted an apology in the form of a closure affidavit. In his affidavit, Lingaraju stated that he would no longer file applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act with government departments.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmendra, conducted an investigation into both cases and found that the allegations were false. He submitted a B-report to the Principal District and Sessions Court, revealing that the cases of caste discrimination had no merit. Based on this report, the court ordered Lingaraju to return the Rs 50,000 compensation to the government.
Thus, Lingaraju has complied with the court’s directive by returning the money, and he has now publicly expressed his intent to refrain from filing RTI petitions or other similar applications that may create unnecessary disturbances for government officials. The case serves as a cautionary tale about the misuse of government schemes and the importance of adhering to legal procedures.
