District In-charge Minister Shivanand Patil directed officials to get ready to tackle the drinking water problem next summer by identifying villages that are likely to face scarcity and said ZP CEO must suspend officials who will neglect the issue.
Chairing a KDP meeting here at ZP hall, Patil instructed officials to come up with an action plan to submit to the state government to meet demand in rural areas.
All drinking water projects should be completed within the stipulated time. All technical issues should be solved within a month in supplying drinking water to city and he told CMC officials to supply water once every five days to the residents of Haveri city. The government has sanctioned a Rs 37 crore project to supply drinking water to Haveri city and Rs 32 crore has already been released to the agency, but the project has not yet started. KUIDFC and CMC officials should look into the problem and fix it within two days, he ordered.
The minister also noted that 60,000 litres is available to supply every day to Haveri city. However, the lack of maintenance and a proper supply plan is the problem. BMC Ballari and CMC Ranebennur have been supplying drinking water to their citizens and their method should be adopted in Haveri too. CMC should deploy a nodal officer for every OHT unit and should monitor the valvemen.
We will suspend engineers of CMC if they fail to supply drinking water to the Haveri citizens once every five days, Shivanand Patil warned. Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly Rudrappa Lamani, Chief Whip of Karnataka Legislative Council Saleem Ahmed, MLA UB Banakar, Basavaraj Shivannavar, Prakash Koliwad, District Nodal Secretary R Vishal, Deputy Commissioner Raghunandhan Murthy, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Akshy Sridhar, Superintendent of Police Shivakumar Gunare were present.
