Anish Bhanwala won a bronze medal and secured a quota place for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol discipline at the Asian Shooting Championship in Changwon. Anish shot a total of 588 in the qualifying round to secure the third-place spot for the final. In the final, he scored 28 points but eventually lost in a shoot-off, settling for the bronze medal. South Korean Lee Gunhyeok won the gold with 34 points. Anish’s performance secured India’s 12th quota place for the Paris 2024 Olympics. India has now earned 30 medals at the Asian Shooting Championship, including eight gold medals. Anish’s qualification was the fifth quota secured by the Indian team during the championship in Changwon. Vijayveer Sidhu narrowly missed qualifying for the final, finishing 10th overall. Adarsh Singh was further behind in 25th place, while Gurpreet Singh, who was shooting for ranking points only, finished 15th overall. In the Men’s Trap team event, India secured a silver medal. The team of Zoravar Singh Sandhu, Kynan Chenai, and Prithviraj Tondaiman scored a total of 341 points, finishing three points behind gold medalists Qatar. Iran won the bronze. In the women’s trap event, Rajeshwari Kumari and Shagun Chowdhary, who were shooting as RPO (ranking points only) shooters, performed well. Rajeshwari finished seventh with 108 points, while Shagun finished eighth with 107 points. Preeti Rajak secured 10th place with 103 points. Manisha Keer and Sabeera Haris finished further down the rankings.
