Dasara, People Celebrate By Burning Effigy Of Ravana

Vijayadashami celebrations on the last day of Dasara   were held in a grand manner. The bunny tied at freedom park in the city was also held efficiently. The people of the district celebrated by burning the effigy of Ravana.

The stage was erected at Freedom Park for the banni mudivu programme and  Tahsildar Nagaraj conducted the programme. Earlier, Kote Anjaneya temple priest Ramaprasad offered prayers to the banana tree. The tahsildar then made three rounds of the banana tree and then cut the banana tree with the sword in his hand. After the banana tree was cut down, the bunny mudiving ceremony ended. On this occasion, people exchanged bunny with each other and greeted them.

Ravana was cremated as soon as the banni mudivu ceremony was over. Various firecrackers were placed in Ravana’s body and burnt. The message behind this tradition is that man should burn his evil.

The Dasara procession started from front of Shivappa Nayaka Fort in the city. The procession was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Selvamani by offering puja to Nandi Dhwaja. Later, MP BY Raghavendra offered floral tributes to Mother Chamundeshwari. MLA SN Channabasappa, Mayor Shivakumar and other corporators were present.

The procession started from Fort Road and passed through SPM Road, Ramanna Shresthi Park, Gandhi Bazar, Shivappa Nayaka Circle, Nehru Road, Durgagudi Main Road, Dr. Ambedkar Circle, Sangolli Rayanna Rasre and reached Freedom Park. It was placed in front of thousands of people gathered here.
