A meeting of the sub-committee has been constituted today to examine the pros and cons of adopting the provisions of Section 144(6) and (21) of the BBMP Act 2020 in the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act 1976 and the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act 1964 regarding the extension to other Metropolitan Corporations/Urban Local Bodies of the State. Revenue Minister Krishnabaire Gowda said that if the land is obtained through legal means, if the process of approval of the map is simplified, it will be possible to prevent illegal settlement and construction of buildings.

Senior Minister H.K. Patil, registration should be done on e-Katha basis only. He suggested that anyone who has encroached on government land and constructed a building in excess of their plot should enter the name of the owner and the government in the account and should also show humanity while taxing the houses built by the poor, Dalits and the weak.

Ishwara Khandre,   said that it is not possible in the current situation to implement the illegal-legal scheme. It is in the Supreme Court. Illegal building construction will no longer be tolerated. Efforts should be made to convince the Supreme Court to regularize the houses that have been built and lived in for tens of years.
