The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made another arrest in connection with its ongoing investigation into the multi-crore cash-for-school job case in West Bengal. The person arrested is identified as Kaushik Maji, a director of M. Basu Roy & Company, the entity responsible for supplying optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets for the written examinations for school jobs. This arrest follows the detention of Partha Sen, another key employee of the same company, which took place on Monday. Kaushik Maji has been subjected to multiple rounds of questioning by CBI investigators in connection with the case. The CBI has also conducted search and seizure operations at his residence and offices, recovering various paper and electronic documents related to the matter. The CBI has informed a special court that Partha Sen was directly responsible for tampering with the OMR sheets to allow ineligible candidates to score higher marks in the written examinations. The agency has revealed that a list of 752 candidates for the 2017 entrance examinations for school jobs in the state was prepared at the office of this corporate entity, and 300 of them eventually secured school jobs, according to the CBI’s submission in court.
