External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Sri Lanka on October 4, marking an important diplomatic engagement with the island nation. This visit aligns with India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and SAGAR initiative, emphasizing a shared commitment to deepen the long-standing partnership between the two countries for mutual benefit.
During his trip, Jaishankar will meet with key leaders, including the newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. He will also engage with Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath to discuss various topics relevant to both nations. This is India’s first official interaction with the new leadership following Sri Lanka’s recent presidential elections, where Dissanayake, a Marxist leader from the National People’s Power party, emerged victorious against incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe.
