Deputy Commissioner Instructs To Take Effective Measures To Eradicate Measles Rubella

Immunised children and pregnant women should be identified and vaccinated, said Deputy Commissioner  Dr  R Selvamani said that authorities i should take effective measures to eliminate Measles Rubella disease.  

He was presiding over the preliminary meeting on the 3rd round of Mission Indradhanush 5.0 organised at the District Administration Office Hall on Thursday.

Many vaccines are given under the Universal Immunization Programme to protect children against vaccine-preventable diseases. The main objective of this program is to target children between 0 to 5 years of age and pregnant women, who have been deprived of these vaccines from time to time, to complete the remaining vaccines.

100 percent progress should be made in the 3rd round of universal vaccination which will be held from October 9th to 14th. Necessary micro plan should be prepared and IEC activities should be carried out. In urban areas especially slums, migrant settlements,  semi-urban areas should be identified and children and pregnant women should be vaccinated there.

Measles-Rubella (MR) disease like polio should be eradicated as effectively as possible. Promotion should be done in a good way to get vaccinated against this disease. He said that all taluk medical officers should take necessary steps to achieve the goal of MR and universal vaccination.

WHO Consultant Dr. Anantesh said that the district has achieved 95 percent progress in the first and second dose of MR vaccine in the district.  

RCH Officer Dr. Nagaraj said, a joint survey is being conducted in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development to identify those who are deprived of vaccine. Survey work is going on in high risk areas such as slums, migrant settlements, peri-urban areas and other places. Urban local bodies should do more publicity about immunization through jingles and jingles.  Other departments should also contribute to the success of the programme.

Various programme officers of Health Department, Taluk Medical officers and staff were present in the meeting.
