Bengaluru

Private transport drivers and owners, who have suffered losses due to the state government’s Shakti Yojana, have called for a bandh in the city on Monday demanding compensation for them and fulfilment of our alternative demands.

The federation of private transport associations has been adamant on the fulfilment of various demands. They are demanding fulfilment of various demands, including subsidy for drivers. In view of this, they have decided to suspend the services of private vehicles from Sunday midnight. Thus, commuters travelling long distances are likely to face problems.

Auto, company cabs, airport cabs, school buses, private bus drivers and owners’ unions have extended their full support to the bandh. KSRTC, BMTC, Namma Metro, bike and taxi services will continue as usual.

More than 30 organisations have joined the bandh. Around 4 lakh autos, 2 lakh taxis, 30,000 goods vehicles, more than 90,000 city taxis and corporate buses will remain off the road causing disruption of vehicular movement for the public.

Before the Shakti scheme, 17.48 lakh people used to travel in buses daily. After the implementation of the scheme, the number of passengers has increased from 24 to 26 lakh. On the other hand, the face of state road transport corporations is changing after the implementation of shakti scheme in the state. Corporations are not only turning profitable but are also pushing for the operation of EV vehicles. KSRTC EV buses are operating from Bengaluru to most of the district headquarters. BMTC has also put EV buses on the road.   Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy informed that the operation of EV buses is also being extended to the North West Road Transport Corporation.
