Former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Dinesh Sharma, has secured an uncontested victory in the Rajya Sabha by-election in the state. Sharma, a prominent BJP leader, was the sole candidate to file nomination papers for the September 15 by-election, which became necessary following the passing of the incumbent MP, Hardwar Dubey, also a BJP member.

The term for this seat will extend until November 2026. The announcement of Sharma’s unopposed election was confirmed by Assistant Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha poll, Ajit Sharma, who mentioned that no other nominations were submitted on the final day. Formal declaration of Sharma’s victory is scheduled for Friday.

Dinesh Sharma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other senior leaders of the BJP for affording him the opportunity to become a member of the Upper House of Parliament. He pledged his dedication to the party and stated his commitment to working towards ensuring Narendra Modi’s re-election as Prime Minister for a third term. Sharma is currently a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
