As many as 22 children and two adults fell ill after consuming contaminated water at Chikkanahalli village in Surapura taluk of the district. The injured have been admitted to the Taluk Hospital for treatment.
Yellappa Chaluvady, a villager, said, the borewell hand pump water in front of the village’s Higher Primary School was used by the children for washing dishes and drinking after consuming the mid-day meal. It is suspected that he fell ill due to this, he said.Four children have been given glucose. 18 children have been treated with medicines. Two adults were treated with glucose. There are 2,000 people from 400 houses in Chikkinahalli village. Asha workers have visited all the houses and created awareness that water should be boiled, filtered and consumed, said Taluk Health Officer Dr. RV Nayak.
