A troubling incident of harassment captured in a viral video has led to swift action by the East division CEN police, resulting in the arrest of the accused. The individual in question was taken into custody after verbally abusing a burqa-clad woman who was traveling on a motorcycle with a man from a different community. The accused’s actions, which were documented in the video, ignited outrage on social media platforms. The video in question portrays the accused intercepting the duo on a motorcycle. He can be heard hurling abusive language at the woman, demanding that she remove her burqa as an act of disrespect to his religion. Despite the woman’s retorts, the accused persists in his abusive behavior. The incident came to light when a concerned individual posted the video on social media, specifically calling for action against the perpetrators. The post was directed at @PriyankKharge, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Bheemashankar S Guled swiftly responded, informing the public that a case had been registered and the accused had been apprehended within 24 hours of the incident. The CEN Police Station, East Division, officially filed an FIR regarding the incident. The arrested individual, identified as Zakir Ahmed, was subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Zakir Ahmed, who is pursuing a medical education in Russia, had returned to Bengaluru for a holiday at his sister’s residence in Govindapura. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, shedding light on the complex circumstances surrounding the event. It has come to light that the woman and the motorcycle rider were acquainted with each other, having attended an interview at a private firm. The incident occurred while the man was dropping the woman home, where they were confronted by the accused and several others. This case serves as a reminder of the power of social media in amplifying awareness and fostering accountability.
