In a distressing sequence of events, the bustling city of Bangalore witnessed a total of 14 accidents between Monday 10 am and Tuesday 10 am. Tragically, these accidents resulted in four fatalities and left 15 individuals with varying degrees of injuries. The challenges posed by the substantial vehicular population in Bangalore are becoming increasingly evident, with over 1 crore vehicles navigating the city’s roadways. It’s estimated that more than 80 lakh vehicles traverse the streets each day, including a considerable influx of over 15 lakh vehicles from outside areas. Unfortunately, this rise in vehicular activity correlates with an escalating number of accidents and their devastating consequences. The accidents unfolded across various parts of the city, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue: Hebbal: 1 fatality (self-accident), Rajajinagar: 2 accidents, 1 fatality (self-accident), Hennur: 2 accidents, 1 fatality (pedestrian fatality), Hulimavu: 2 accidents, 1 fatality (self-accident), Basavanagudi: 2 accidents, KR Puram: 1 accident, Whitefield: 2 accidents, Sadashivanagar: 1 accident, Mico Layout: 1 accident.
Among the fatalities were pedestrians and bikers, highlighting the vulnerability of non-motorized road users. In Hebbal, a 32-year-old lost his life in a self-inflicted accident. Meanwhile, a young pedestrian from West Bengal tragically succumbed to a bike collision in Rajajinagar. In Hennur, a woman named Poonandas (32) lost her life after being struck by a motorcycle. A devastating incident occurred near Hulimavu, where a biker named Mohan (32) collided with a water tanker near Kudlu Gate, leading to his unfortunate demise. Despite efforts to save him, Mohan succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital. The accidents further underline the pressing need for enhanced road safety measures and heightened awareness among all road users. While Bangalore continues to thrive as a technology hub, addressing the growing road safety concerns is paramount to preserving lives and ensuring a safer urban environment for everyone.
