In the Kalyana Karnataka region, competitions are organized in different villages on Nag Panchami every year. Various competitions are organized including bullock cart race, lifting of heavy stones and tying of bullocks. Similarly, in the district too, this time a competition was organised to drive a different tractor backwards, especially for men. Basalingappa Hurasagundgi of Doranahalli village won the competition.

Koli Samaj State Organising Secretary K Umesh felicitated Basalingappa, who won the competition. Basalingappa drove the tractor backwards from Doranahalli village on Vijayapura-Hyderabad highway to Vadageri cross on the outskirts of Yadgir and reached the destination in 1 hour and 43 minutes. Another participant, Parshuram Tokapura, covered the same distance in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Basalingappa Hurasagundigi, who finally reached 2 minutes earlier, was declared the winner. Basalingappa Hurasagundgi reached a distance of about 24 km very quickly and won the match. The supporters whistled, felicitated them with shawls and carried them on their shoulders.

Basalingappa Hurusagundgi said that the competition is organized every year on the occasion of Nagarpanchami festival. I am the winner of the competition. The total amount is Rs 1 lakh 45 thousand and is happy to have got it.

Organizing such competitions on public transport roads increases the chances of accidents. It is dangerous to do such an adventure on the route where other vehicles, including transport buses and lorries, ply. Motorists have suggested that it is better to choose suitable areas while organising such competitions.
