The Rani Chennamma Maidan Gajanana Utsava Samiti submitted a memorandum to the City Municipal Commissioner demanding that Ganeshotsav celebrations be allowed this year as it was last year in connection with the installation of Ganesha idols at Rani Chennamma (Idgah) grounds in the city. .
Speaking on the occasion, Hanumanthasa Niranjana, Convener of the Samiti, said, we have submitted a memorandum to the Hubli Dharwad Municipal Commissioner (HDMC) to allow Ganeshotsav Celebrations at Rani Chennamma Maidan from Gajanana Utsava Samithi. Last time as a result of our struggle, we had the opportunity to celebrate Ganeshotsav. This time, the committee has decided to celebrate for 11 days, he said.
The Supreme Court said that Rani Chennamma Maidan belongs to the HDMC. The government should not allow any confusion in this regard. He demanded that the Municipal Corporation should allow us to celebrate Ganeshotsav a fortnight in advance.
We should be allowed to have cultural mantapas and ganesha idol installation halls in connection with Ganeshotsav. We are committed to ganeshotsav celebrations as per the conditions of the corporation. He said a meeting will be held with the Swamiji of 3,000 Mutts and other Ganesha Samiti office-bearers to discuss ganeshotsav in advance.
Veena Baradwad, Mayor of HDMC, said, like last year, ganesha idols will be installed this year too. No decision has been taken yet. More than three organisations have already submitted a memorandum in this regard. There is still plenty of time. Therefore, no decision has been taken as of now. A decision on how long should be allowed will be discussed and an appropriate decision will be taken, she said.
