Stray Dog Menace On The Rise, Hospitals Report Bite Cases

Must read

Haveri

There seems to be no end in sight to the stray dog menace in the city, as they can be seen roaming around on the street freely at district headquarters. These stray dogs disrupt vehicular traffic and attack the public, mostly during night hours. Recently, two children died after a dog attack in the city. Meanwhile, there are no proper drugs to treat dog bite patients at different hospitals, and patients are facing hurdles due to the scarcity of medicine.
It is also creating problems for residents as well as commuters in a big way. Stray dogs can be seen in various places across the city, especially at Subhash Circle, JP Circle, near Veerabhadreshwar temple, old NH-48, and prominent residential areas. Sometimes they can be seen in packs of 20-25 dogs in the middle of roads, thereby, blocking the traffic and pedestrians. City Municipal Council (CMC) has not yet initiated action such as sterilisation of stray dogs, which is one of the reasons for the increasing stray dog population in the city.
The sterilisation of stray dogs has been halted due to a technical problem with the contractor. It will be solved soon and sterilisation will commence soon after, shared CMC Commissioner Devaraj.
