Belagavi
Despite being adjacent to the city, this locality is deprived of basic amenities. This is the plight faced by the people of KHB Colony in Basavanakudachi.
The layout was constructed by the Karnataka Housing Board in 2012 and is spread over an area of 137 acres. As many as 1,573 plots of different sizes have been constructed and allotted to the people as per government norms. In 125 sites, houses have been constructed by the government. In all, more than 220 families have built houses here. However, even after 11 years of the construction of the layout, the basic amenities are not available as per the demand. There is a direct link from KHB Colony to NH-4. But the work on this road has come to a halt due to space issues.
Veerendra Allaiah, a youth from the colony, said, the inner roads of the layout have been constructed only in name. Some of the street lights have been damaged and the menace of drunkards has increased. Women and children are not allowed to move around. There is fear of thieves. There is a lot of problem due to lack of health care, he said.
Clean water is not provided, children are falling ill after drinking contaminated water. In the absence of proper street lighting, one has to walk around at night with life in hand. Politicians come only during elections. At that time, they promise something and cast their votes. They don’t even look back at us after that, said Saroja Halage of the colony.City Municipal Commissioner Ashok Dudagunti said, I will soon send a team from the Corporation to inspect the site. I will take cognizance of the problem and take further action, he said.
