A team of officials from various departments, who identified areas where water was being stolen by laying pipelines near the distribution canals in Tungabhadra left bank canal limits, carried out a clearing operation to clear the pipelines on Monday. In order to prevent water theft, an operation force comprising officials of various departments, including Deputy Commissioner and Chief Engineer of Tungabhadra Dam Authority, has been formed.

Following this, a team of officials, led by Irrigation Department Executive Engineer MS Godekar, conducted the eviction drive with the help of JCB in the presence of Police, Revenue, Public Works and Panchayat Raj Department officials.

On the other hand, officials have detected a case of water being stolen by laying an unauthorised pipeline into Tungabhadra left bank canal near Jeerala Kalgudi and Chikkadankanakal villages under Kanakagiri taluk. Following this, Tahsildar Vishwanath Muradi visited the spot and inspected the spot. A team of officials, led by the tahsildar, carried out the operation to destroy the unauthorised pipeline. Tahsildar Vishwanath said that more than 10 cases have been detected and a complaint will be lodged in this regard.

Tahsildar Manjunath Hiremath said, we have received complaints that the quantity of water meant for drinking and agricultural activities to reach Raichur is decreasing due to theft of water in the upper reaches. Following this, an inspection was conducted at the spot and prima facie no cases were detected. Even though the irrigation department had set a standard that the water level in the canal flowing on our side should be 13 gauge points, when we visited the water gauge point near Dasanala, there was a flow of 13 points, he said.
