Nag Panchami festival is being celebrated across the district with great fervour and devotion. Since early morning today, devotees have been visiting Naga Bana and offering milk to the Naga Deva. Special pujas are performed to Lord Naga at Aralikatte in Shivamogga district and offering naivedya and offering prayers.
Devotees who come to The Naga Deva clean the idol of Lord Naga, apply turmeric kumkum, put on a cotton garland and decorate it with flowers. They then place various fruits and sesame seeds in front of Nagappa and offer naivedya. They then offer milk to Nagappa.
Shivamogga: Devotees along with their families have been thronging nagarakatte in front of Ravindra Nagar Ganapathi temple in Shivamogga since early morning to offer prayers to Lord Naga. On the occasion of Nag Panchami, devotees come to offer panchamrita abhishekam, sesame seeds and naivedya prasadam to the Lord Naga.
Speaking about the significance of Nag Panchami, priest Surya Narayana said, the worship of Lord Naga is important for everyone. If we pray, The Naga God will definitely bear fruit. If there are serpentine defects, if there is a rift in the marriage or if there are any other problems, it will be corrected by the Naga Deva. The whole earth is carried by Nagadeva. Devotees coming here from this morning will have the opportunity to offer prayers to Lord Naga, he said.
This Nag Panchami festival is known as the festival of the girl child. The daughters offer prayers to Naga Deva to wish the parents well. They bring all the puja materials required for the puja from home and offer puja to the Naga Deva. They then pour milk on the deity and offer puja, said Lalithamma, a devotee.
