The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a probe at the offices of the South India Hindi Prachar Sabha in the Karnataka region. The investigators, who have been camping for the past one week, have questioned more than 50 employees of the Hindi Prachar Sabha in the city.
The Prachar Sabha is facing allegations of misappropriation of more than Rs 22 crore of central government funds. The CBI team is conducting inquiries in various jurisdictions of the Sabha. Hundreds of files were seized and examined. The Dharwad Regional Office is located in Goa. It has also gone there and conducted an investigation. An investigation is underway into allegations that the old management in Goa and Mysore sold some properties and misappropriated funds.
An investigation is underway into the misappropriation of funds during the tenure of the governing body from 2004 to 2020. There have been many discrepancies in the audit and account details and every file is being searched by the CBI.
The CBI is visiting all schools and colleges in Karnataka region. It is collecting information about the involvement of members of the previous governing body. Many retired retirees have also been summoned and interrogated. Earlier, the central government had given grants for the propagation and promotion of Hindi. It was allegedly misused without using it for the original purpose. It is learnt that documents have been found about some teachers and staff depositing money in their own accounts.Hindi Prachar Sabha President Eresh Anchatageri said, an investigation is underway into the irregularities in the governing body of Dakshina Bharat Sabha from 2004 to 2020. He is accused of misappropriating more than Rs 22 crore of government funds.
