The Indian Golf Union (IGU) is preparing to host Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) tournaments in 2025 and 2026. Supported by global organizations like the International Golf Federation (IGF), Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), and APGC, the IGU is also pursuing funding through the Olympic Solidarity program.
The IGU recently secured full voting membership in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), ensuring increased government backing for golf. According to IGU President Brijinder Singh, the organization has actively pitched to host Asia-Pacific events, building on its strong presentations at international tournaments like the Asian Amateur Championship. These efforts aim to provide Indian golfers the chance to compete at home and leverage home-ground advantages.
The IGU continues to oversee the prestigious $2 million Indian Open, part of the DP World Tour, and is already preparing for its 2025 edition with promising responses from sponsors and global stars. The Union is also expanding golf’s reach to India’s North East, collaborating with Assam’s Tourism Ministry to host promotional events and use golf to boost tourism.
A school outreach program has introduced 10,000 students to golf, with 2,500 trying the sport. Meanwhile, the National Golf Academy of India (NGAI) has been revamped to strengthen professional training, and India’s inclusion in the Confederation of Professional Golf (CPG) marks a milestone in the sport’s growth.
The IGU plans to send Indian golfers to 12-15 international events in 2025, fostering competition and supporting emerging players like Avani Prashanth and Kartik Singh, who are set to turn professional soon.
