The City Police will take stern action against the use of shrill horns, especially in private buses. DCP (Crime and Traffic) BP Dinesh Kumar said that police are considering seizing buses for a day that use shrill horns.
Meanwhile, it will also recommend the RTO the suspension of licenses of such drivers using shrill horns, the DCP said at the Sanchara Samparka Divasa. He pointed out that private buses frequently neglect the use of indicators or brake lights. Soon, action will be taken against jaywalking. Cameras with automatic number tracking systems will also be installed by Smart City Limited as part of its phase 2 works. The City Police have installed 75 CC cameras.
The public raised several issues at the meeting such as problems of traffic congestion at Kodikal Cross, Kottara Chowki, Car Street and other areas. K Jayakrishnan brought up an issue regarding the receipt of a traffic violation fine, stating that he received the fine notice despite not being at fault. He had already written about the issue to ACP of traffic Geetha Kulkarni.
Other concerns that were raised include buses not adhering to their scheduled timings and skipping trips, particularly during the weekends. The presence of footpath vendors in various areas of the city has led to challenges, in terms of both vehicular movement and pedestrian accessibility. The public has raised concerns regarding the practice of hotels parking vehicles on the roadside, under the guise of valet parking.
Meanwhile, the issue of tracking buses through the GPS fitted on them through the command and control centre was also discussed. The officials suggested that all school buses must also be fitted with GPS and monitored through the smart city’s command centre.
