Hockey India has reached a significant milestone in fostering grassroots hockey development by announcing the formation of a core probable group for the country’s first-ever sub-junior national camp. This is a major step toward nurturing young talent and securing a strong future for Indian hockey. The Women’s sub-junior core group, consisting of 40 members, is set to participate in a national coaching camp starting on August 21 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, known for its world-class facilities. Notably, former Indian women’s hockey team captain Rani will take on the role of a mentor and coach for this camp. The selection of players for the core group was based on their recent performances in the Hockey India Sub-Junior National Championships. This initiative aims to bring together the most promising young talents from across the country, allowing them to develop and shine on a national stage. Following the camp, the players will also participate in international matches in Europe. The core group includes talented goalkeepers and defenders such as Tarra Sailaja, Hodam Pabitra Devi, Muskan, Rajni Kerketta, and others. The coaching staff accompanying the core group consists of experienced individuals, including Rani as the coach, along with assistant coaches, physios, masseuses, and a trainer. Rani, the coach, expressed that the formation of the women’s sub-junior core group is a testament to Hockey India’s commitment to providing top-tier training and exposure to emerging players. She highlighted that this effort aligns with Hockey India’s goal of establishing a sustainable talent pipeline for continued success in hockey, and that it will contribute to a solid foundation for women’s hockey in India.
