The CCB Police have arrested three persons, including a notorious drug peddler, for selling the drug MDMA (Methylene Dioxy Methamphetamine) in the city. The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Imran (36) of Shivanagar in Moodushedde village, Amjat Khan (42) of Badagabettu in Manipal in Udupi district and Abdul Basheer Abbas (39) of Manjanadi in Mangaluru.
The accused, Mohammed Imran, along with two others, used to buy the drug MDMA from Bengaluru, bring it in a car and sell it to the public in and around Bondel Padushedde. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by CCB unit ACP PA Hegde conducted a raid and arrested the three.
The police have recovered MDMA weighing 170 grams valued at Rs 9,00,000 from the arrested accused. 5 MDMA fills, one car, six mobile phones and a digital weighing machine were seized. The total value of the seized assets is estimated at Rs 14,76,500. A case has been registered against the accused at Kavoor Police station. Several others are involved in the case and the search operation is on, Police said.
A total of nine cases have been registered against Imran so far, including the smuggling and sale of ganja at various Police stations, including the murder of Vamanjoor Charan at Rural Police Station in 2016. Imran was released from jail on bail a week ago, Police said.Another accused Abdul Basheer Abbas was earlier booked in a case of assault at Bantwal Rural police station. CCB Uunit ACP PA Hegde, Police Inspector HM Shyam Sundar, PSIs Narendra, MV Sudeep, Sharanappa Bhandari and CCB staff were involved in the operation.
