Punjab is rapidly emerging as an important information technology destination, with Mohali expected to develop into a major centre for artificial intelligence, digital innovation and Global Capability Centres, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Monday. He made the remarks after meeting a delegation from the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM).
Mann said world-class infrastructure, skilled professionals, lower business costs, Invest Punjab and the state’s new GCC Policy 2026 were helping create a favourable environment for technology companies. He said the government was working to attract investments and create more employment opportunities for young people in the state.
The Chief Minister invited NASSCOM to partner with Punjab’s upcoming startup incubator in Mohali and help strengthen the state’s innovation ecosystem. He said the government was focusing on technology-led development to attract new industries and investments. Punjab is also working with Punjab Agricultural University, IIT Ropar and the Union Ministry of Agriculture to introduce artificial intelligence-based solutions in farming.
These initiatives will support smart farming, precision agriculture and predictive analytics, with the aim of improving crop yields and promoting sustainable agriculture. Mann said multinational companies were showing growing interest in investing in Punjab, particularly Mohali, because of its strong infrastructure and connectivity.
According to Mann, Mohali has good air, rail and road links, quality medical facilities, leading educational institutions and sufficient land for development. Six universities are located in and around the city, providing companies with access to skilled talent. He said the combination of infrastructure, connectivity and human resources could help Punjab attract global companies and expand its technology sector. The government expects this growth to strengthen the state’s economy and provide more opportunities for its youth.
