Several organisations in Koppal have urged the district administration and elected representatives to continue the district hospital in its old building on Hospet Road until the Kidadala Railway Overbridge is completed.
The appeal was submitted on Tuesday by groups led by the Janapara Sangathanagala Samyukta Vedike, opposing the hospital’s relocation to the KIMS premises.
The organisations said the shift had created serious problems for patients, especially those needing emergency treatment. They pointed to the Kidadala railway gate, which is frequently closed because of train movements. Ambulances carrying critically ill patients, including heart attack and accident victims, can reportedly get stuck near the gate.
The groups warned that such delays could cost lives because emergency patients need treatment within the important golden hour. They said patients may not reach the hospital on time if ambulances are held at the railway crossing. The organisations stressed that immediate access to medical care was essential for poor and ordinary patients.
The alliance warned that officials and elected representatives could face responsibility if patients die because timely medical treatment is unavailable. It named Koppal Deputy Commissioner, KIMS Director Dr. Vijayanath Itagi, District In-charge Minister Shivraj Thangadagi, MLA Raghavendra B. Hitnal and MP Rajashekar B. Hitnal in its warning.
The organisations demanded that the old district hospital be reopened for public service until the flyover construction is finished. S.A. Gafar, Basavaraj Sheelvantar, Channabasappa Appannavar, Makhbool Raichur and leader Galeppa Mungoli urged authorities to act quickly. They said any delay or loss of life would make the administration responsible.
