Mandya is set to see new efforts in women’s employment and public healthcare, as MLA P. Ravikumar Gowda Ganiga inspected several proposed projects on Monday.
The plans include an Akka Cafe, a Stree Mart, expanded facilities at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, and a modern trauma care centre. Officials discussed the locations, designs, facilities and steps needed to move the projects forward without unnecessary delay.
The proposed Akka Cafe is intended to give women a steady source of income and greater financial independence. Women would take part in food preparation, management and customer service, using their skills to build self-reliance. The cafe will also offer clean, tasty and affordable meals, breakfast items and snacks for students, workers, employees and other members of the public. Gowda said such opportunities can strengthen families and communities.
At the proposed Stree Mart in Gandhinagar, women’s self-help groups and small entrepreneurs are expected to get a common place to sell food products, handicrafts and household goods. The facility is planned to help women reach customers directly, improve sales and develop sustainable businesses. During the inspection, officials were asked to prepare a suitable plan for construction and operation. The aim is to make the mart a practical platform for local enterprise and employment.
At MIMS, the MLA reviewed a proposed ₹50-crore infrastructure plan in view of the growing number of medical students. The proposal includes a student hostel, teaching rooms, educational facilities and other basic amenities. He asked engineers and officials to prepare a detailed blueprint quickly, keeping future needs in mind. He stressed that construction quality must remain a priority because MIMS serves patients and students from Mandya and neighbouring districts.
Plans also include a trauma care centre to improve emergency treatment, especially after accidents on roads. Gowda, officials called for identifying five acres for the facility. During the visit, he heard patients’ complaints and directed hospital authorities to ensure punctuality, respectful treatment, basic facilities and equal care. He said negligence or misbehaviour would invite action under rules, while the projects would give Mandya services.
Free health camp offers treatment to public
A free special health check-up camp will be held on August 17 at Santemala Government High School in Shankarpura, Mandya. The camp is jointly organized by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, health department and medical institutions. Specialist doctors will provide free examinations and treatment for several diseases, including heart problems and cancer. Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar urged people from rural and urban areas to attend in large numbers. Officials were asked to arrange drinking water, cleanliness, transport, separate facilities for women, and public guidance. Around 3,500 people are expected to attend. Scouts and Guides will assist visitors.
