Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has been instructed to start trial runs for the Namma Metro Blue Line in October. Commercial operations for the corridor are officially scheduled to launch next year in 2027.
The update came during a high-level meeting held with key stakeholders to discuss a seventeen-kilometer stretch along the Outer Ring Road. While the mega project connecting KR Puram to the international airport faced past delays, the government is now pushing for faster completion. Gowda also highlighted a massive Rs 450 crore redevelopment initiative aimed at transforming the Outer Ring Road network.
Addressing local residents, the minister emphasized that public input remains vital for tackling complex urban infrastructure challenges. The fresh design draft incorporates wide granite footpaths, high-rise pedestrian crossings, skywalks, and structured bus bays to encourage walking and reduce heavy traffic congestion. Furthermore, the government plans to use an annuity payment model, requiring contractors to maintain road quality for over a decade.
Gowda acknowledged that rapid, unauthorized real estate expansion over the past thirty years has complicated land acquisition and junction planning. To fix chronic gridlock, authorities are prioritizing coordinated utility upgrades, stormwater drainage improvements, and dedicated public parking amenities. The minister noted that he has conducted recent night inspections with officials to finalize practical solutions, ensuring the massive transit upgrade benefits daily commuters across the city efficiently.
